The Petrović Njegoš Foundation was established after the Law on the Status of Descendants of the Petrović Njegoš Dynasty was adopted in July 2011. Since there was no specific law relating to foundations at the time, the Petrović Njegoš Foundation was registered as an NGO.
The Foundation is governed by the Management Board assisted by external consultants. The President of the Foundation Prince Nikola Petrović Njegos is assisted by his son Prince Boris, acting in the capacity of Vice President. The main objective of the Foundation is to participate in actions and partnerships in the field of solidarity, ecology, culture and innovation that may contribute to development and promotion of Montenegro.
Since 2012, the Foundation has implemented and provided support to numerous activities across various areas, thus providing assistance to a great number of Montenegrin citizens in need. It has developed various projects in cooperation with institutions and non-governmental organizations in Montenegro, but also with numerous European partners.
The Foundation aims to use its extensive experience and join the initiatives to take action on global warming and poverty, to promote the Ecological State and rural revival at the teritory of Montenegro, but also at the regional and European scale.
A statement quote by Prince Nikola Petrović Njegoš
As Ernst Friedrich Schaumacher convincingly and justifiably claims in his book Small is beautiful we should all together make efforts to create a society fit for humanity.
Nikola Petrović Njegoš, an architect with practice in Paris, is the last descendant of the Petrović Njegoš Dynasty. As the Crown Prince, he was invited to return to Montenegro in 1989, when the remains of King Nikola, Queen Milena and their daughters, who all died in exile, were transferred to Montenegro. Upon his return, Prince remained actively engaged in various activities – at the time of conflicts in former Yugoslavia he founded the Cetinje Biennial and was advocating peace, human rights and culture.
In their early youth, his children Boris (the President and Founder of Rocket Lab company) and Altinaï (a filmmaker), expressed their interest in reconnecting with the country of their origin and taking part in the activities being organized and supported by their father since 1989.
