Citadel in Ulcinj and the old town of Herceg Novi are one of the richest cultural heritage monuments in Montenegro.
After the cultural heritage workshops successively held in 2013, 2014 and 2015 in Ulcinj, the Foundation made a preliminary study of the conservation and valorization of Ulcinj Citadel, in collaboration with French architects, headed by the chief architect for historical monuments and the President of ICOMOS in France, Mr. Benjamin Mouton.
The workshops were organised with architects from the “Ecole de Chaillot” from Paris (http://www.citechaillot.fr/fr/formation/ ), who under the leadership of Benjamin Mouton and with their Montenegrin colleagues, made an urban and architectural study of the old town within its walls.
During the first three visits made in the period from July 2015 until February 2017, with a valuable contribution of architects from the association « Synergie » from Herceg Novi and the Ministry of Culture, the main characteristics of the old town of Herceg Novi were identified, and the working plan was defined containing the following objectives:
▪▪ For the long-term period: a sustainable preservation of the locality and efforts toward making it prominent;
▪▪ For the short-term period: support to the candidacy for the World Culture Heritage ;
