Beginning of the olive harvest in Bar

On 18th of October the Association of olive growers in Bar organized the first event called “Ex albis ulivis”, to mark the beginning of the olive harvest. Under the auspices of the Petrovic Njegos Foundation, this event was organized in the beautiful setting of the Old Town of Bar.

Besides olive picking in the nearby olive grows, their processing was also organized, so that the visitors can learn more about the process of olive oil production. They also had the opportunity to taste different types of oil and various dishes made with olive oil, halva and priganice (fritters).

The program of this event was very rich, and included, inter alia, two professional presentations. Mr. Mario Car from the Institute for Mediterranean Culture from Dubrovnik gave a lecture on the “Advantages of early olive picking”, while Ms. Stoja Ljutica, M.Sc., from the Biotechnical Faculty in Podgorica gave a presentation about health effects of the virgin olive oil.

Besides promotional reasons, the “Ex albis ulivis” event was organized in order to encourage olive growers to pick the olives early, and it also served as an introduction to the great “Olive days” event in the Old Town of Bar, which will take place in the second half of November.
