Center of young scientists at the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (MASA) and the Petrovic Njegos Foundation organized a scientific conference titled “Montenegro and France – literary, linguistic and cultural ties”, on 26 May in Podgorica.
The meeting was opened by President of MASA, Academician Mr. Momir Djurovic, followed by welcome speeches by Her Excellency the Ambassador of France to Montenegro Ms. Véronique Brumeaux and the President of the Foundation Prince Nikola Petrovic Njegos. Prince Nikola said that Montenegro has its place in the European culture, and that its links with France resisted the stormy times throughout history. Also, he reminded that the Foundation is encouraging the development of relations between two countries through a number of cultural projects and he welcomed efforts that MASA is devoting in the same direction.
The plenary speaker at the conference was Prof. Jean-Jacques Tatin Gourier from Francois Rabelais University in Tours, who gave a lecture on a topic “The Representation of Montenegro in France in the 19th Century: Increasing visibility beyond ‘prejudices’ Voltairean”.
