For the second year in a row the Foundation supported the francophone Club “Café Evropa” in its participation in the XVI International Festival of Francophone Theatre for Secondary Schools, held on 11-17 April 2014 in Catania (Italy).
The “Cafe Evropa” team was comprised of ten secondary school students from Podgorica and Danilovgrad (“Slobodan Skerovic” Gymnasium, “Sergej Stanic” Secondary School, both from Podgorica, and “Petar I Petrovic Njegos” Gymnasium from Danilovgrad), and two French language teachers, who got compliments from the hosts and other participants for the play “Alice in the Adultland”. This festival was comprised of 16 plays, and besides the Montenegrin participants, there were also student groups from Italy, France, Canada, Luxembourg, Romania and Bulgaria who presented their plays. According to Zorka Kovacevic Burzanovic, director of the Creative Club “Café Evropa”, such events, where young people take the lead, represent the best way to overcome prejudice, spread tolerance and understanding of different cultures and civilizations.
In 2013, in cooperation with the Turkish Embassy in Montenegro, the Foundation supported the participation of this Club in the XIV International Festival in Istanbul (Turkey), from 19 to 22 April. During the workshops that were organized at this occasion, which were lead by the professional actors from the National Theater in Istanbul, our high school students and their peers from five other countries (Turkey, France, Canada, Belgium and Morocco) had an opportunity to develop further their talents and love for the theatre. The festival ended with the show of the internationally known clown Heinzi Lorenzen.
“Cafe Evropa“ is a creative center that organizes French language courses for several years now, as well as numerous creative workshops for primary and secondary school students. Besides, this organization participates every year in celebrating the Francophone Day in Montenegro. Since its establishment in 2000 till today, this center was supported by various international associations and organizations, including the following: Solidarité Europe Montenegro, CCFD, France libertés (Fondation Danielle Mitterand), MEA, the French Institute (former French Cultural Center).
